In class we were given an assignment that challenged us to put to images together to make one image. After several preliminary ideas we had to narrow our focus down to three rough compositions.
Comp 1:
I feel like it is the weakest of my three. Symbol A is Jiminy Cricket, he is portrayed in the Disney movie as Pinnocchio’s conscience. He is always dropping in on Pinnocchio in his adventures giving advice to avoid mischief. Symbol B is an ear diagram from a biology book that was strangely interesting to look at. The point that I am trying to push is always listen to your conscience. Seeing as Jiminy is a lighter line value I think that it represents the force of our inner conscience, a very light non forceful voice that opts to us to do the right thing, but ultimately the decision is ours. I believe that it is an easy one, two connection. I know that this composition needs more attention for it to be finished as a rough.+
Comp 2:
This is my favorite composition by far it has a vague feel but also its very intriguing; random girl with a giant plus sign? I went through several different ideas about this particular image, I really didn’t want to give up the silhouette of the girl. Symbol A is a giant plus sign, not a Christian cross. I took in to consideration the different meanings that are shown in our text books, I started to describe to myself what some crosses mean in our lifestyles. Symbol B is a silhouette of a girl in a hooded sweatshirt. I think of the young girl as a very easily influenced teenager, she might be awkward, have low self-esteem, an
d or struggling with other issues. Putting these two together really hit me when I was away from the computer. I didn’t think about it until I was about to go to bed a few nights ago. I had the girl with other images, but I started to think about why she looks the way she does. I wondered about why is she looking off over her shoulder, is she paranoid? Is she thinking about something? I even thought about what she was wearing, why a hooded sweatshirt? I do believe that this image can hit hard with teen pregnancy.A lonely girl, probably confused and the thought of a lingering plus sign that she read on her pregnancy test floating in her mind. The boldness of the plus sign is on its own resounding and speaks volume. A little plus sign on a pregnancy test can be a giant obstacle and life changing.
Comp 3:
This composition to me is humorous. I didn’t find much similarity between the two objects at first, but it struck me after I made a list of descriptions for the two images on paper. Symbol A is the comic book hero Batman, somewhat easily recognized as an advocator for good, a masked vigilante, and is symbol for a hero that claims no glory for himself. Symbol B is the medical staff which represents hospitals and health care. My point of this composition is to address our problems with health care/ hospitals. I believe that the American medical system need as much care as it provides. It needs proper funding and Americans deserve the best medical treatment at a reasonable price. They deserve protection from being corrupt. In a similar sense our hospitals and health care need an advocator, someone who will fix our problems and in turn will be our “masked hero”. I want the staff to look like Batman’s shadow. In the comic strips they have the batman signal in the air and it can be seen from across the city, I see the Batman signal replaced with the staff to be a call out for help to our problems with health care/hospitals.
